When does the Evans Elementary PTA meet?

The PTA usually meets 5 times a year - September, November, February, April and May - at the school. Look for specific dates and times on the PTA calendar.

I already pay taxes for public education, doesn’t that cover PTA too?

Taxes pay for the basic educational needs, the PTA pays for teacher grants (requests made by teachers for additional books, supplies, technological resources, etc.). The PTA also covers things that benefit our students but are outside the school's budget, such as additional recess equipment and social events. Because the PTA is an independent non-profit organization, it receives no financial support from the public school system. As our finances are separate, we have more freedom to spend it to benefit our school's specific needs.

I already pay taxes, so the school should have everything it needs.

Wouldn't that be nice! Taxes fund only what taxpayers are willing to pay and what the state and district deem necessary. PTA contributions for programs and fundraisers are all optional. This allows you to participate in only those activities that you like (unlike taxes…).

If I join PTA, will you call me or bother me always wanting something?

Absolutely not. PTA needs volunteers who want to be involved with their child’s education. We only call and ask for volunteers if you have specifically completed a volunteer registration form or contacted our volunteer coordinator. When you join the PTA, you are helping us financially, helping our PTA obtain positive recognition, and keeping volunteers motivated. Imagine how much less fun Mary Evans would be without the Book Fair, school spirit items, author visits, Watch DOGS, the PTA Directory and classroom parties. Imagine how stressed the staff would be without the thousands of annual volunteer hours provided to assist them. Join PTA. Have spouses, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and everyone else you can find join PTA. We won’t call and drive you crazy, we promise. But we do need your support.

I want to volunteer, but I only have a couple hours I can donate.

There are many small events or projects throughout the school year that can make use of even the smallest amount of time available. You choose whether you want to participate during school hours or do something at home, on your own time. The school is thankful for every volunteer and even an hour or two makes a difference.
